Chickenshed NYC

Chickenshed NYC is an inclusive theatre company for children and young people, whose mission is to create entertaining and outstanding theatre by fostering inclusion and integration that inspires positive change.

Chickenshed’s model of Inclusive Theatre is based in the belief that everyone can flourish when everyone is included and its members represent the mosaic of cultures, ethnicities, disabilities and identities that make up our world.

Core programs include: Adventures from The Shed, immersive live performances for preschoolers and their families, My Little Adventure, singing, movement and storytelling program for preschoolers, and Chickenshed Players (CP), no-audition theatrical workshops for kids and teens where the participants are led by professional theatre practitioners to create and devise the productions they perform.

Chickenshed Players | Inclusive Theatre Workshops
Fall Semester: September 12 – December 19

CP 3: Ages 10-13
September 9 – December 9 | Saturdays | 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM

This semester Players rehearse in ‘Jack‘, a new musical to be performed in December.

First performed in the UK to sold out audiences this show tells the story of Jack, a poor disheartened character who, living in a tiny house in a run-down seaside town with his exasperated mother and bothersome sibling, takes refuge by playing arcade games. One day, instead of just playing the video game, Jack becomes part of it, suddenly lost within a magical world where some giant challenges must be faced. Helped by some unusual characters Jack must overcome these trials to complete the levels of The Beanstalk.

Our no-audition policy ensures that every participant can be part of the show without the pressure of an audition process.

In addition, guest scientists and artists workshop with the Players on AI related themes inspiring the Players to add their creativity and ideas as part of the rehearsal process.
