Hello and Happy New Year to everyone! I’m Damon Williams, 14Y Fitness Manager, and your guide to all things health and wellness. For many of us, the start of the new year is a great opportunity to reflect on our goals and re-commit to taking the necessary actions to achieve them. By the way, the fact that you have even thought about setting fitness goals for this year puts you way ahead of the game (yay), but if we want to turn our goals into reality we must take it a few steps further.
Here are my top 3 tips on how to take those fitness resolutions and turn them into results!
1. Put your goals in writing.
The minute you put pen to paper, detailing your goals in writing they become that much more real and tangible. It’s like you’re making an official declaration to the universe of exactly what you intend to do. Focus on making your goals as S.M.A.R.T. as possible.
- SPECIFIC
- MEASURABLE
- ATTAINABLE
- REALISTIC
- TIMELY
Setting SMART goals is incredibly beneficial toward your success. You can take a goal (example: I want to lose weight) and super charge it into a S.M.A.R.T. Goal (example: I want to lose 10 lbs by March 31, right in time for my vacation).
2. Know your reasons why.
You know exactly “WHY” you want to achieve your goal. It’s the fuel to your fire whenever you find your motivation declining, (and trust me, it will), from time to time. When you think of this “why,” let it reignite your desire to achieve your goal all over again—putting you back on the right track! Every person’s “why” is unique and personal, as it should be. It’s your very own secret weapon to get you back on track when the going gets tough!
3. Get the help you need to achieve your goals.
There’s no need to go it alone if you don’t have to. At the 14Y, we have so many resources available to help you achieve your fitness goals!
Members get access to more than 50 fitness classes each week as well as monthly wellness workshops and fitness pop-ups.
Be sure to take advantage of your complimentary WELCOME WORKOUT that’s included in your membership. The Welcome Workout is a great opportunity to sit down with a certified personal trainer to discuss your goals and begin the process of developing a solid plan to achieve them. And it doesn’t stop there! We have fitness staff on the floor available to answer any questions you may have or to get you set up on your favorite cardio or exercise equipment. You can even request guest passes and bring a friend along to workout out with you!
