Today is International Day of Happiness, a global celebration started by United Nations in 2013 after the UN General Assembly in 2011 adopted a resolution that recognized happiness as a “fundamental human goal” and called for “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.”
After the first ever UN Conference on Happiness took place in 2011, the UN General Assembly designated March 20th the International Day of Happiness, which we now celebrate every year since.
This online movement of people, coordinated by Action for Happiness, is celebrated across 160 countries, and its success is due to the support of organizations that focus on the happiness and well being of their constituents and their communities.
It seemed only right that the 14th Street Y, as an organization committed to the development of the whole person and bettering people’s lives, took a moment to honor our incredible downtown community that strives to make every day positive, empowering, and, you guessed it — HAPPY!
