Dining Schedule

In Person Breakfast

Sign in between 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM and ticket required. Dining room opens at 8:30 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 10:30 AM

Monday – Friday | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Sign in between 11:00 AM – 12:55 PM and ticket required. Dining room opens at 11:00 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 1:30 PM.

“OutCry” Short Film Premiere

OutCry highlights social injustices in America, with a focus on Black Lives Matter and mental health resources, using spoken word, music, and movement on film. Join us for the premiere and a moderated panel discussion with mental health and social justice workers.

Help Us Make Signs For: Aging In Place 2.0 Rally

Play an important role in raising your voice by helping our center create signs for the Aging in Place rally that is happening on Wednesday, November 13.

Bring your own materials or utilize the materials the center has available.

 

Age in Place 2.0 Rally 

Wednesday, November 13 | 11:00 AM | Meet Us at City Hall Fountain

If you would like to travel with staff on public transportation, meet in the lobby at 10:30 AM. 

Join your peers and center staff in raising our collective voices to advocate for New York’s aging. Older Adults from all five boroughs will gather on the steps of City Hall and demand that our elected officials provide the needed greater services for all of NYC’s aging! Bring signage and center pride and know your presence will go towards keeping the services we provide up and running.

 

Healthfirst Presentation

Join the Healthfirst presentation and learn about insurance and Medicare benefits. Refreshments will be provided.

 

Nutrition Workshop: Diabetes and Blood Sugar Management with Nutritionist Tamar 

Tuesday, November 19 | 2:30 – 3:30 PM | Lounge

Join us for an informative workshop designed to help you understand and manage blood sugar levels effectively! This session will focus on nutrition strategies tailored for diabetes management, covering how different foods affect blood sugar, the importance of meal planning, and practical tips for balanced nutrition. Group Trip: Wave Hill Public Garden & Cultural Center

Join us for a visit to Wave Hill’s 28 acres, full of sweeping views and lots of open sky. Inviting us to connect to nature, Wavehill’s self-guided Woodland “Soundwalk, How Fragile, We Bloom” is available to all with a smartphone and headphones.

 

Group Trip: National Museum of the American Indian

November is Native American Heritage Month, a ime to recognize the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous people in the United States. Accordingly, join the center in visiting New York’s National Museum of the American Indian. Please note this trip is a self-guided tour for each individual. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own lunches.

Strength and Balance with Rob

Strength and Balance class, seated, with a safe option for standing
exercises for balance and strength. With weights.
No registration needed. Just drop in.

 

Painting with Art Therapy Interns
Starts Monday, October 14 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Art Studio  
Space will be limited to 8 participants. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, October 2 for both AM and PM Painting Studio sessions. Members can enroll in this group series in person, by telephone, 646-395-4534, or via E-mail at sirovich@14streety.org. Please include the time you would like to attend in the email.

This fall, join us for the painting group series Painting and Acrylic and Watercolor for Relaxation. This relaxing, expressive group series is ideal for members interested in creating art using acrylic, watercolor, or oil paints on canvas or paper. Participants will have the option of using a prompt to guide their painting if desired. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re curious yet inexperienced or an established professional – no previous art experience is required.

Rewriting the Narrative Drama Therapy Intern Andrea

Explore life experiences, reframe personal stories, and rediscover your voice. Enjoy a free hour of open swim at the 14 Street Y pool. Please bring your Sirovich membership card. Also bring a swimsuit, swim cap, lock for the locker room.

Jazz Line Dance with Bernard

Discover the joy of movement in our Jazz Line Dance class! This dynamic class blends the vibrant energy of jazz dance with the fun and social aspects of line dancing, creating an exhilarating experience for dancers of all levels.

 

Balance 101 with Demetra 
3:15 PM – 4:00 PM | 1ST FL Auditorium
This chair class focuses on strengthening muscles and improving flexibility to allow for the joint stability and mobility we need for walking and completing everyday tasks around the home like carrying groceries and doing the laundry. People of all abilities, including anyone who uses an assistive walking device or wheelchair or is recovering from knee, foot, hip injuries, etc., can participate. You also have the option of completing standing work, with the chair in arms-reach. No registration is required.

 

Tapping Together with Demetra

Join us for an exciting intergenerational tap dance class, offered in partnership with 14Y Afterschool students grades K – 2. Instruction is tailored for adults and children who have a passion for dance and rhythm or just want to have fun. No previous dance experience is necessary to participate.

Fall Prevention and Balance through Music and Movement with Columbia OT Interns, Amanda and Anjelika

The “Music and Movement” program is an 8-session occupational therapy fall prevention and balance program. Each session focuses on a different music genre or era, creating an engaging and age-appropriate experience and includes a themed game, such as Balance Bingo or Name That Tune, to reinforce learning and engagement.

“Golden Giggles” offers a welcoming, supportive environment where participants can express their creativity, improve mental agility, and engage in spontaneous storytelling. Through playful improvisational exercises and games, participants will enhance their communication skills, sharpen their wit, and experience the joy of unscripted comedy. No previous experience is required.

Meal Service Helpers

Our center serves delicious and nutritious meals to LES’s older adult community daily and needs volunteers to serve food during lunch services.

 

Food Pantry

Held on the first Wednesday of each month

Packing 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 1:40 – 4:00 PM

Distribution 1:40 – 4:00 PM

The Sirovich Center holds a food pantry service on the first Wednesday of each calendar month.

Contact M Clayton at mrclayton@edalliance.org to explore various roles that contribute to our mission, such as helping serve lunch, packaging pantry foods, and more. It’s important to note that all volunteers must be vaccinated for COVID-19 to ensure the safety of our community. We look forward to seeing you.
