Lunch and Learn: Session Four
Welcome to the Fourth Session of The Lunch and Learn: Israeli Charedi Society
The Israeli Ultra Orthodox community is only 9 percent of the Jewish population, yet it has a tremendous affect on Israeli politics, society, and culture.
Over the last decade, Israeli Ultra Orthodoxy hit mainstream as the family TV Drama Shtisel made it to Netflix and Shababnikim–the Ultra Orthodox version of The Entourage–became popular among young secular Israelis.
With it, public rage in Israel towards Ultra Orthodox Boys who refuse to join the army has plummeted and conflicts between Ultra Orthodox and secular Jews on Shabbat, Religion and State continue to raise more disputes.
In this session we will learn:
- How does the Ultra Orthodox Israelis both increase attraction and resentment?
- The unexpected role of women in Israeli Ultra Orthodoxy
- Who changes who: Israeli Society or The Ultra Orthodox community
- What can we learn from them regarding the relations between the Jewish streams here in America?
Israeli food and drinks will be served!
This event is FREE and open to all. Please REGISTER as space is very limited.
