PAUSE/PLAY: LABA Lights

The 14th Street Y invites you to PAUSE/PLAY: LABA Lights, a festive community Hanukkah celebration with the 14Y LABA Artist Fellows.

We invite you to hit the pause button in your busy lives and join us for an afternoon of lights, laughter, sufganyot, celebration, and relaxation.

This event will include exciting activities for the whole family, including a bling-your-dreidel station!

Come experience all that our downtown community and LABA Fellows have to offer.

 

 

FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES

SUZANNA BRIDGES HANUKKAH SING ALONG | 3:00 – 3:45 PM
The 14th Street Y’s Family Programs will host Suzanna Bridges in a very special sing along for Hanukkah. Learn “Dreidel Dreidel” and “Oh Hanukkah” in a fun, interactive setting. For children 4 and younger.

FAMILY SWIM | 3:00 – 6:00 PM
Our pool is as refreshing in the cold winter months as it is on the hottest summer days. Bring the whole family to enjoy open swim all afternoon! All ages welcome.

IMAGINE PLAY PROJECT WITH LINDA WHITE, PLAY CURATOR | 3:00 – 4:45 PM (Joined by East End Temple from 3:00 – 3:45 PM)
Exploring light with hands on discovery of light and shadows through creating imaginary menorahs with recycled materials. Create- imagine- design. Open to all ages and abilities.

FAMILY YOGA WITH SUSAN | 4:00 – 4:45 PM
With the theme of light for Hanukkah, Susan will lead a yoga session for the little ones—and mommy and daddy too! All ages welcome.

HANUKKAH SAFETY FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES | 4:00 – 4:45 PM
LABA Fellow and comedian Willie Zabar uses humor to teach fire safety when lighting your menorah candles in this family-friendly performance. For children ages 4+

GAGA | 3:00 – 4:45 PM
A New Country Day Camp Counselor led session of GAGA—everyone’s favorite Israeli Dodge Ball! For children ages 4+

Free Childcare | 3:00 – 5:00 PM
Available for children ages 6 months and older.

 

FOR ADULTS & SENIORS

SENIOR YOGA WITH SUSAN | 4:00 – 4:45 PM
With the theme of light for Hanukkah, Susan will lead older adults in a yoga session focused on wellness.

THE JEWNIGHT SHOW | 3:00 – 3:45 PM
Join us for a workshop performance of a LABA project taking its first steps from the page to the stage. The Jewnight Show is a fake late-night TV talk show where modern audiences meet biblical Hebrews and Jews of yore. Writer/humorist & first-time host LABA Fellow Mark Katz welcomes LABA Fellows Charlie Buckholtz, Willie Zabar and Liba Vaynberg as Judah Maccabee, Harry Hanukkah and Judith of Bethulia to the program’s pilot episode, plus a special musical guest. Ages 18+ only.

LEARN ABOUT THE 2020 CENSUS | 3:00 – 4:45 PM
The New York Regional Census Center will be here to answer all your 2020 Census questions.

BURNING LIGHTS: HANUKKAH IN CLASSIC YIDDISH LITERATURE | 4:00 – 4:45 PM
LABA Fellow Rokhl Kafrissen will lead a leynkrayz (reading circle) with a classic Yiddish story about the holiday of Hanukkah. Participants will take turns reading (in English or Yiddish) or can just listen.

 

FOR EVERYONE

HANUKKAH PARTY AND HOLIDAY CONCERT | 5:00 – 6:00 PM
Join us for this joyous community event! Eat delicious donuts, mingle with community members, and dance to a holiday concert from LABA Alum Mariano Wainsztein. All ages welcome.

This event is free and open to all.
