The Genesis Plays

The In[HEIR]itance Project & 14th Street Y Present: The Genesis Plays

5 Plays. 3 Weeks. 1 Book.

Conceived by Jon Adam Ross and Directed by Chantal Pavageaux

In 2015, actor/playwright Jon Adam Ross received a Signature Grant from The Covenant Foundation to create The In[heir]itance Project and answer the question: If we allowed communities behind the scenes of an artistic process as collaborators from the very beginning, could the artistic process become the product, with the finished art piece being just another element of a dynamic, communal exploration of inherited and lived narrative? The In[heir]itance Project embarked on creating The Genesis Plays, a national theater series created to put communities in conversation with stories from the Torah. This festival is a completion of that cycle – 5 plays made in different cities around the United States, performed in NYC for the very first time over 3 weeks at the 14th Street Y, all inspired by stories from 1 book.
